When and Where Will COP31 Be Held?
As a result of a historic diplomatic compromise COP31, November 9–20, 2026 between the dates Antalya, Turkey’will be held. While Antalya hosts tens of thousands of delegates on the Mediterranean coast, the summit's leadership has a different structure.
Australia, at COP31 “Head of Negotiations” will take over the role and build a bridge between the Eastern European and Western European and Others (WEOG) regional groups.
Why is this partnership important?
COP31 is a unique summit that brings together the regional influence of two important countries. Turkey, as the host country, has highlighted the Mediterranean's climate vulnerabilities and its role as a bridge between the Global North and South, while Australia has committed to putting Pacific Island countries at the center of the agenda.
This partnership ensures that the voices of “frontline” Pacific communities most affected by sea-level rise are heard, along with their technical and financial needs.

For Antalya, COP31 will be one of the largest diplomatic events in the city's history; it will increase international visibility and sustainable tourism will come to the fore. At the same time, it will put the Mediterranean climate crisis, which is facing fires and water scarcity, high on the global agenda.
Pre-COP Meeting to be Held in the Pacific
As part of the COP31 agreement, A high-level Pre-COP meeting in the Pacific will be held. This meeting, jointly led by Australian and Pacific leaders, serves as the diplomatic engine of the main summit.
Objective; before world leaders arrive in Antalya, the small island states Loss and Damage is making critical demands such as financing and the protection of maritime borders into negotiation topics.
