What is COP?

Copper, “Conference of the Parties” is the abbreviation for. In the context of climate change, this “Parties”, created in 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are the signatory countries. With approximately 200 countries and the European Union as parties, the COP is the highest decision-making body in the world on global warming. 

UNFCCC's The main objective is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations at a level that prevents dangerous impacts of human activities on the climate system. COP meetings are organized by number. For example, COP21 concluded with the Paris Agreement, COP28 This focuses on the gradual phasing out of fossil fuels. 

 Why is COP Important for Turkey? 

Hosting COP31 is a strategic step for Turkey. Conference, 2053 Net Zero Emissions roadmap and renewable energy investments on a global scale. 

In a historic diplomatic compromise, COP31, November 9–20, 2026 will be held in Antalya, Turkey. While Antalya welcomes tens of thousands of delegates to its Mediterranean shores, the leadership of its conference is of a different nature. Australia, at COP31 “Head of Negotiations” will take over the role and build a bridge between the Eastern European and Western European and Others (WEOG) regional groups. 

COP31 is a unique conference that brings together the regional influence of two important countries. Turkey, as the host country, highlights the climate vulnerabilities of the Mediterranean and its role as a bridge between the Global North and South, while Australia is committed to placing the Pacific Island nations at the center of the agenda. This partnership ensures that the voices of the “frontline” communities in the Pacific, who are most affected by rising sea levels, are heard along with their technical and financial needs.

Project Manager Celal UYSAL 

Celal Uysal, a lover of the sea with a special interest in blue carbon, places great importance on climate change and leaving behind clean air and a healthy environment for future generations, demonstrating his sensitivity in these areas. He guides businesses in quality management and environmentally friendly practices, offering international consultancy services. 

Celal Uysal, who started his professional career in the tourism sector as a guide in Kuşadası in 1986, has worked as a senior manager in Turkey's leading tour operators in Turkey and abroad. 

It established its first company, e-Travel Turkey, in 2008. The company primarily engaged in tourism management certificate, tourism investment certificate, tourism incentive certificate, culture initiative certificate activities and became a leader in this sector in 2026. In 2022, it stepped into sustainability and started sustainability and environment-oriented certification activities at international level. In addition, as the idea pioneer of the COP31 Antalya project, it undertook the sponsorship processes, implementation and management of the event and brought together different stakeholders.

Born in 1980 in Istanbul, Levent Köseoğlu is an experienced banking professional and entrepreneur. After graduating from Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Business Administration, he started his career at Denizbank in 2004 in the Corporate Banking department. 

In 2011, he joined Fiba Holding as part of the founding team of Fibabanka. In 2023, after the innovative business plan of Fibabanka's senior management was approved, he founded cOmmited.app, Turkey's first carbon-neutral shopping infrastructure provider.

The cornerstones of the COP31 Antalya journey are being laid with a collective work discipline meticulously maintained from the very beginning of the project. All projects, digital platforms, and strategic initiatives presented in this report are the tangible outcomes of a systematic planning process that the team has been carrying out uninterruptedly for approximately three months. 

1. Operational Discipline and Meeting Structure 

The COP Antalya team holds routine strategic planning meetings twice a week, for two-hour sessions each, to bring the project's vision to reality. This intensive work period covers a wide scope, from establishing the intellectual framework to clarifying the technical details during the implementation phase.

The fact that COP31 will be hosted by Turkey means we will welcome thousands of international participants. This application is a sustainability-focused digital guide that allows delegates, activists, and visitors to explore both the conference venue and city life without difficulty. Our aim is to elevate the participant experience by integrating tourism, culture, and the official program on an interactive map. 

2. Core Mission and Goals 

The application guides participants in making informed and sustainable choices in the city while helping them to spatially understand the COP31 sessions. It aims to connect with local culture and build a digital networking platform. Our core objective is to provide a safe platform that highlights intuitive, climate-friendly spaces and allows users to share experiences.

COP Antalya Competition: About COP31 Young Climate Activist Support Program 

  1. Program Vision and Summary 

The Young Climate Activist Support Program, which is planned to be implemented within the scope of COP31, is a strategic initiative that aims to make the voices of young leaders from regions most affected by the climate crisis but underrepresented in international platforms heard. 

Operating with a sponsorship vision that will host hundreds of students during COP31, this program brings the energy of youth together with global diplomacy. This initiative aims to empower young perspectives, bring local solutions to the global agenda, and allow a selected participant to present their community-focused innovative ideas directly to world leaders by attending the conference in Antalya. 

2. Program Scope and Implementation Process 

In the COP31 process to be held in Antalya, the accommodation expenses of selected participants will be covered by the program. Applications will be accepted through digital forms between April 1st and June 1st. The program's mission is to showcase regional climate challenges and promote youth-oriented solutions that can contribute to international climate policy discussions.

This program is a sustainable support mechanism aiming to contribute to climate justice by bringing the local experiences of young leaders to a global diplomacy platform.
